Christian Leadership Coaching Technology
We use a behavioral coaching technology developed and utilized by Marshall Goldsmith, premier executive leadership coach, whose methodology has been proven by the marketplace and by univeristy studies. Here's a quick summary of how Christian Leadership Coaching works:
- The leader completes a self-assessment of his/her leadership practices - the popular and proven Leadership Practices Inventory developed by James Kouzes and Barry Pozner. This is done on-line and takes about 20 minutes.
- The leader asks a minimum of eight other people to go online at their leisure and complete the Inventory on his/her behalf, answering the questions as "observers" assessing the "leaders" leadership practices. Because the LPI is a "360-degree assessment inventory", the "observers" should include people in four different groups: (1) the leader's manager, (2) the leader's co-workers/peers, (3) those who report directly to the leader (direct reports), and (4) a group of "others" who are acquainted with his/her work as a leader, perhaps in the workplace, but perhaps in other venues. All feedback is anonymous.
- When all the inventories are completed, the coach receives the final summative report showing the compiled results of all the observers input and how it compares to the self-assessment of the leader.
- The coach sits down with the leader and reviews the report, noting strengths and weaknesses, things that the observers say the leader does well and places where the observers suggest the leader might do better.
- The leader chooses what he/she wants to do with this information. The coach helps the leader identify specific behaviors that the leader could change to either enhance those leadership practices that are working well or those that could be improved. The coach also helps the leader map out a strategy for change.
- The coach helps the leader enlist those who are "stakeholders" in his/her success to help him/her make the behavioral changes that will result in more effective leadership practices. This is the place where our coaching technology makes 360-degree assessment vastly more effective than it usually is. We not only help the leader make real and long-lasting changes in how he/she does leadership, but we ensure that his/her co-workers, managers and direct-reports SEE that he/she has changed. This makes it easier to change, and it ensures that the changes "stick". We work with the client for a year to make sure that the new leadership behaviors are permanent.
- At the end of the year, we administer another 360 and demonstrate the changes. The client can then decide what leadership practices to work on for the next year.
Other leadership development programs produce inspiration, give information, encourage change and even produce promises and resolutions. Our leadership coaching produces actual change in the proven leadership practices that produce results.
